FAQ

Common questions

What's the difference between a roadworthy and a safety certificate?

Nothing. Queensland's official name is a safety certificate, but most people still say roadworthy or RWC.

Do I need one to sell my car?

Yes. To sell a registered light vehicle privately in Queensland you need a current safety certificate to give the buyer.

How long does a safety certificate last?

For a private seller, 2 months or 2,000 km, whichever comes first.

Can you do it today?

Often, yes. Call or text early in the day and we'll give you the first free time.

What happens if the car fails?

You get a written list of what needs fixing. Have it fixed anywhere you like. Bring it back within 14 days and we only re-check those items.

What do you inspect?

Cars, SUVs, 4WDs, utes and vans up to 4.5 tonnes. We don't inspect caravans, trailers, motorbikes or heavy vehicles.
